Even as the days get cooler, we don’t find ourselves getting sick of granola. We just shift the bright and fruity flavors that make for a refreshing breakfast over yogurt or with milk in the summer to warm and spicy flavors more fitting to the season.

We still enjoy it all the typical ways, with milk or atop yogurt. But, if we’re feeling like a warm bowl of oatmeal to wake us up, we’ll top it with some granola to mix up the texture.

  • 4 c oats
  • 1 c raw pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
  • 1 c pumpkin puree (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1/2 c brown sugar
  • ¼ c honey
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ginger
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp cloves


  • Preheat oven to 325°F.
  • In a large bowl, mix oats and pepitas.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients, until combined.
  • Pour wet ingredients over oat mixture. Mix well with a rubber spatula, until oats are well coated.
  • Spread mixture onto a lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Bake for 40-50 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes, until granola is crisp and golden.
  • Remove from oven and let cool before storing in an airtight container.
